Election Nov. 5th, 2008 @ 07:23 am
Thoughts:

From my friend Devon:
OK everyone, I've tried to call some people on their bullshit, but this is ridiculous.

I can respect the fact that you may be sad, upset, dismayed, angry, or even pissed at the outcome of the election. You all know how I voted, so I can't say that I'm with you. But here's what I know: I'm tired of the melodramatic woe-is-me attitude. If you are "leaving America" then do it and quit bitching. If you want to quote political philosophy, then have something without fallacy.

I'm sorry McCain lost. But for the first time in a long time (think President Johnson) we have a president that won in all the major regions, save for Alaska. A president that won the popular vote. And a Minority President.

It may be hard for you white guys "rocking the suburbs" to realize but do you even know how big that is? 150 years ago I did not have the right to vote. 100 years ago, I was denied my right to vote. Up until 1965 with the Voting Rights Act I really had no ability to vote. Can you wrap your mind around a scant 43 years from poll taxes to a Black President? Even if you don't agree with the man, acknowledge the feat and be proud to be American.

If you feel that this is the worst thing ever for America: play nice, the rest of us have been saying that for the last 8 years. Just please, quit bitching after a fair and free election.

My response:
I completely agree with your note, Devon. I'm now going to add my additional two cents:

My opinion on the whole thing is that partisanship ends once the election ended. Democrat, Republican, Black, White, whatever, we need to stand as one as Americans. And as Americans, we elected Barack Obama. Whichever way I voted, (and Oklahoma is so overwhelmingly Conservative, it doesn't really matter which way, or even if, I voted), we have a new president. As McCain said last night, it's an amazing feat that Obama has accomplished, and though McCain and Obama were rivals, they are now going to (hopefully, the optomistic part of me says), work together.

The Election is over. We have a new president. You know what we should be saying now? God Bless America. No freaking election issues from now until 2010.

I'm waiting to see where we go from here. I hope Obama can pull this country together. I hope this country will wake up and show the world that, just like in the Charlie Daniels Song, "you never did think that we'd ever get together again, In America."

Yes, we can

updates and randomness Oct. 7th, 2008 @ 09:45 pm
To start:
How do you kill lots of Zombies? Run them over with an Ambulance. Clearly.

Sorry for no update for like... months. That happens. Things are going so-so. I really need to get off my butt and get on this finding a job thing, but I'm lazy. I also need to finish up this bar app before this weekend. That would be a very good thing.

I'm living by myself now (if I hadn't let you all know that before. I forget when I last posted.) and am doing quite well. Except that randomly forcing me to change where I'm living over the summer has put me out $700 that I could really do with right now. Money's going to be extremely tight unless I get either (a)scholarships (not too likely) or (b)a job. So... money's going to be tight.

I've also got a haircut. And I don't mean a trim, like last time, but an actual hair-cut. Though that was two months ago now. *shrug* Better late than never, I suppose.

A really good friend of mine is moving out here in a couple of weeks for a new job, and I'm going to go on at least one date with her once she gets out here. We've been talking a lot, about a lot of stuff from the serious (politics) to the nerdy (doctor who). She and I get along really well together, which bodes well, I think. Also, I have been subtly teaching her in the way of the math joke. I respect my roots! Speaking of jokes, I have been pun-tastic lately. It's been rather fabulous. (I would get slapped were all of these puns not made over the phone. )

I've also been in the webcomic-reading craze lately. Blowing through loooooong webcomics. Catching up on old ones. Some recommendations:

  • And Shine Heaven Now - Hellsing doujin. Breaks the fourth wall, has fun crossovers (including Doctor Who!). Lots of fangirls and their ships.
  • Irregular Webcomics - Random themed comics that has been running for like.... forever. It has a bunch of themes, drops references and puns like nobody's business, is half lego! Oh yeah, and Steve Irwin wrestles Cthulhu.
  • Darths & Droids - Same guy as Irregular Webcomics, except makes captions for screenshots of Star Wars movies. So far on Episode 1, but it's much, much more coherent than the movie. And way more fun.
  • Beyond Reality, Emergency Exit, Parallel Dimentia - Dimensional transport. In all three. Enough to have crossovers between these three comics. I read the first, and the crossover pulled me into the second, which crossed over into the third... I don't know if I can take another crossover....
  • Okashi Okashina - a.k.a.'d as Strange Candy, it mocks pretty much every anime stereotype ever. It's a lot of fun, and one of the guys from here helped write a Read or Die/Hellsing Crossover for And Shine Heaven Now. Fun stuff.

That's all for now.

Also, I need more Doctor Who. Otherwise, I shall start following the rumor mill way too closely. Doctor Who spoilers/rumors. Not for those who like their shows un-spoiled )

In a side note, a puzzle I've been pondering for some time. I've I have short hair, am I still Sasquatch? Discuss.

the day today, yo. Jul. 4th, 2008 @ 10:38 am
Happy Independence Day. The day where all of you declared that you'd be free from my country. Well, I'm here to let you in on something. We're secretly taking it back. We're going to infiltrate your government (through natural democratic processes, of course), and sign all sovereign rights over to our sovereign. It's a conquest over 230 years in the making. Let it never be said we aren't patient.

WHAT WAS THAT. NO. MAKE IT BE NEXT SATURDAY ALREADY, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

((Translation: I just watched the next to last episode of season 4 of doctor who. Not only was it amazing, but it's the biggest cliffhanger, EVAR. GAH. For those of you who don't watch... go watch it now. All of it. Right now.))

I return... Jun. 4th, 2008 @ 05:37 pm
...briefly, anyways. I have no idea how long this good fortune will last, but... yeah. I've been without internet since leaving Norman, and so this is a relief to finally be here. I've been doing my internship with TAMKO, which is quite fun and legalesque... and I'm bound by confidentiality agreements, so I can say no more.

I've also been working on my house with my father, which includes a long, long trip to Iowa to pick up windows. We left here at 3 am, got up there at 1:30, loaded windows onto a budget rental truck, and then left and drove back down at 5. We got home at 3 am. Not much sleep for us either, and the work was heavy and tiring. It's done though.

Anyway, I'm still catching up on stuff that I've missed, so expect me to be severely out of the loop on things for a while.

If my french is correct, then the above title says it's raining. Which it is. I'm happy that it's raining, as all of the plants outside need watering, and it's also nice to just sit and watch the rain. It makes me miss being back up on Couch 12, watching thunderstorms move in and out, listening to classical music. Anyway.

Moot court mostly over. If I, by some miracle, advance, then I'll have more stuff next week, but other than that, it should be over. And just in time to start studying for finals. Wheeeee~. I'm a little less worried about them than last year, but it's still creeping up on me. Hopefully I'll do even better than last semester, but... Can't tell until we get there.

I got a job for the summer finally, and am going to be working at a company called Tamko in Joplin. It pays rather well, and the plus side is that I'll be at home, so no added rent expenses. Always good. I think it will be a fun job too, and I'll get to meet some business lawyers and learn the ropes of everything. Good stuff.

Med Fair was last weekend, but I didn't buy anything. Ah well. Money issues are causing me to be a bit tighter at the moment on some of my expenses...

Liverpool is doing well in the Champions League over in Europe, so I'm happy for that.さすがリバプール。

I just finished catching up on the Detective Conan manga (it's REALLY long!), and now I need something else to read, manga-wise. I'm such a junky! I also need to burn some stuff off my computer again onto DVDs.

That's the semi-update from me. Love you all!

Thank God it's Spring Break. Yes. I would be pushing up daisies if not for spring break. And in more news, I have a new phone coming in in a few days. My old one will still work, I just will slowly work on getting people over to the new one. Since my old one is a pay as you go and its plan doesn't expire until... 2010.. I foresee no problems with keeping it around just in case.

This will of course mean a new phone number. But it does mean I finally get unlimited night and weekends. And tons of text messages. AND I HAVE A FREAKING CAMERA PHONE NOW. YES. Which means I may see about taking pics of my Fourth Doctor's scarf.

And Happy St. Paddy's Day to everyone! I celebrated it today by going to O'Connell's after no sleep and no food! And then came home and took a nice long sleep. From like... 4:30 until 11:30. YES.

If you're in town, feel free to hit me up this week. I have nothing doing that can't be reasonably postponed. I mean, it's all things like cleaning my apartment, or doing laundry, or things like that.

Have a good night!

P.S. jdfklajfdklafjdlafjdlakfdsklfjdaljfdskl ITACHI. Which brings me to another thing. I've noticed that most of the Itachi toys in Hastings and art in Hastings tends to be pre-time jump Naruto. Which means that the Akatsuki uniforms should all only have a single sleeve. Why do they feel the need to add a second one? That's what makes the uniforms cool! (I actually only noticed this just the other day. New uniforms have two sleeves, old ones only have the one... They just keep one arm inside their coat thing and the other arm is in the sleeve. Even Shark-boy is that way. Neat, huh?

Thanks to everyone who sent me well-wishes yesterday! I really appreciate it! I've got a lot of stuff to do with regards to my appellate brief (freaking 6000 words. O.o;;; ), so I've been kinda busy, and will probably be busy til it's done. But whatever.

On the plus side, I bought stamps today, which made me giggle when I saw what they were. I scanned them for everyone's enjoyment:

HEEEEEEEE.

I've been listening to Iron Maiden a lot lately. I'm almost tempted to upload some songs here, and I may if anyone asks. However, in lieu of that, I recommend going and seeing if you can listen to any of their songs off "Brave New World." It's a really good album.

And that's it for my update! Bye~

List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
Tag seven people to do the same.
Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it" OR ELSE YOU FAIL.

1) I obsess over the Doctor from Doctor Who. Obviously. He's actually a very big hero of mine.

2) I have recently started wearing sports coats. Because wearing those and other suit-y type things makes me feel... Bondish. >D

3) I have absolutely no photoshop skills... but I can edit pictures in Paint like nobody's business!

4) When I start to study, the first thing I have to do is clean my room. At the very least. Potentially the entire apartment.

5) I find talking on the phone and doing absolutely anything else impossible. I have a very hard time multitasking my way through a phone conversation. D:

6) I am called upon by people all over the world! campus to help out with understanding academic-type stuff. It's been this way since... 10th grade. *shrug*

7) I have found that I prefer watching movies in the quiet. Or at least, if one is going to speak, make snarky commentary. That is the only thing that I will allow. All other talking is banned. I picked this one up from my father. Who developed it after going to see A Hard Day's Night and being absolutely unable to hear because of all the girls. :D?

I tag... the Doctor, Emily-chan, Itachi, Vash, and... the three Daleks from the third season of Doctor Who. EXTERMINATE!

[The Doctor proves that he has a time machine by encountering Martha in her past, then returning to their present]
The Doctor: Told ya.
Martha: No, but that was this morning! But.... Did you.... You can travel in time! But hold on, if you could see me this morning, why didn't you just tell me not to go into work?
The Doctor: Crossing into established events is strictly forbidden. Except for cheap tricks.

I love the doctor. *grins*

I feel like death. I'm so tired right now that if I don't stop consciously thinking about it, I know I'm just going to fall asleep right here and now. I didn't sleep last night because I was feeling the effects of procrastination, and so now everything is catching up to me. Live and learn, ne?

Hokay. Time for sleep.

» Harrison Ford...
in Lego!

The above site should serve as an indication of how dorky I am. And yes, I did buy a set. Product Number 7620, actually. The Motorcycle Chase. So not only do I have Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in Lego, I HAVE FREAKING SEAN CONNERY AS DOCTOR HENRY JONES IN LEGO TOO. WIN. EPIC WIN.

I urge the continuance of this line of awesome.

Also, as a side note: I shall be receiving my scarf soon. I'm EXCITED!

Time for a very funny video. A skit done with images from Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney. I die. Seriously.

I may include this in my will. If I take Wills and Trusts, this will definitely get shown to that professor. >D
» And it begins again...
School starts again in a few days. I'm not really ready for it materials-wise, but everything else is a go. I'm hosting a "Squint Like Clint" Movie Marathon today. We had lemon poppyseed muffins for breakfast, tacos for lunch, and we're going to have lasagna for dinner. Two movies down, two to go. I'm excited. Clint is an old friend, and watching his movies reminds me of good times. There's just a quality to them that I find lacking so often in more modern movies.

Sorry for only one post over break, but I went on hiatus from my computer to prove to myself that I could. It was nice being away, but also nice to be back. I miss Whitney already, but I'm excited for her next semester.

I feel a little disconnected to some of the rest of the people around here. Whether that's law school just taking up my time, I don't know. I just feel... distant. *shrug* I'm reconsidering my housing arrangements for next year -- even though I hadn't made any. I dunno. The music playing (the loading screen for "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly") isn't helping, either. It's a lonely sort of music, which just emphasizes things.

Anyway. Back to the movies. The two we have left on the agenda are "Where Eagles Dare" and "The Outlaw Josey Wales". Fun stuff. And now a quote: "Dying ain't much of a livin', Boy."

Edit: I should add: It's only some of the people who I thought I was close to before. I still feel close to the rest of them. If you're reading this post, you're probably in the second category.
» ummm... 'sup?
Hey all. I'm at home in Joplin, safe and sound. I don't suppose there was too much doubt about that, but you never know. I've been busy for the past... umpteen weeks, it seems. After 2 weeks of finals (and studying every day), and getting home and running random errands for people, this is the first day where I don't have much to do. Still doing errands, but whatev. I've been on the computer like... TWICE since getting back, and that will probably be the way it goes for the rest of the holiday. I'll be back in town the sixth of January, for everyone's information.

Um... Finals were kinda hectic, but I think I did all right. THANK GOD FOR TEACHERS WHO LET ME USE NOTES AND BOOKS. OTHERWISE... YEAH, I'D BE HOSED. I talked to a friend of mine from high school (well... I knew him since 4th grade, but I knew him through high school too.) Golfing with him later today. He's talking about trying to play it professionally this spring and summer, so yay for him. I don't have the slightest clue what's going on with the rest of the class, but that happens, I hear.

To do list for the holidays:
(1) Buy Christmas Prezzies. I haven't done this yet for ANYONE AT ALL. Sorry, [info]iverin, that includes you. I haven't forgotten you, and I will be getting you something. I'm just slacking collectively. You might say I'm an equal-opportunity slacker. XD

(2) Fill out Bar application. From wherever it is. I have to find it first. XD

(3) Call all the important folks to wish them happy holidays on Christmas and New Years.

(4) Be generally helpful around the house.

(5) Write my first couple of adventures for the campaign I'm running. Um... yeah, that'll be interesting. >.>

(6) Get more blues. I need more sad music if I'm going to spend time walking around outside in the dark. It's an atmospheric thing, after all.

And then a note to myself.
Go here when I get back. I kind of need that Dalek Icon.

I may try and make a Christmas post with various things in it. Dunno about the timing yet. Also, I managed to successfully cook Kilbasa and Peirogi yesterday. It was so good, I'm going to have it again today. And I picked up some more cooking tips from mother dearest.

Also, Credit Card wa, yokatta. Otherwise... January's rent might be a bit... iffy. >.>

Queen + Paul Rogers recently released a song that they had had on their tour set from the 2005/2006 season that I feel needs to be brought to the forefront. I just downloaded it and listened to it. A+. A+++. It was written for Nelson Mandela's AIDS project 46664. It's a very poignant song that talks about how we think we have everything in hand and that things won't happen, but, inconceivably, do anyway. Obviously, the band's experience with AIDS is very personal, with Freddie Mercury dying to AIDS in 1992. I feel that for Brian and Roger to put this track out silently pays tribute to him. I linked the track download here, so feel free to download it from the Queen website.

I hope that you enjoy the song, and are struck, even as I am, by its meaning.

Lyrics to Say It's Not True.

God Bless you all. Whitney, I'll miss you super much.
